Volunteers are needed to sew quilts!! I need your HELP!!! Cutting, and sewing fabric are the only skills needed for creating the "Snuggle Care" quilts for children and adolescents with HIV/AIDS and other chronic illnesses. Recycled denim using an appropriate pattern designed by Treasure The Children, Inc. is sewn into quilts for preteens and adolescents. Easy beginner quilt patterns and soft colored quilt fabrics are sewn creating infant and adolescent bereavement quilts, which are also provided to pediatric units. The quilts differ in the type of fabric, color selections, and patterns. Denim clothing donations/drives are needed to supply clothing items, which are recycled and made into quilts. Donations of quilting fabric in soft and bright colors, fat quarters, batting, blue jean thread are needed Cutting fabric: Recycled jeans, shirts, skirts, and jumpers are used to create quilts for the preteens and adolescents. The denim clothing seams are removed and the pieces are cut into 6.5 " squares. Quilt fabric is also cut into strips.
Sewing: All quilt patterns are
simple and can be sewn by a beginner sewer. The denim quilt is best sewn
using a twin needle. The other quilts patterns are sewn using a ¼ inch seam
allowance. The patterns provide detailed instructions. If your quilt
experience is limited, then create a top which can be completed by a
volunteer who enjoys adding batting, back, binding and quilting in the
ditch. The "Snuggle Care" volunteers create Treasures for so many courageous patients. I need your HELP! Monetary donations, fabric, sewing notions and volunteers are needed to sew quilts. A pattern to create quilts for teens from recycled denim was designed by Treasure The Children, Inc., and denim drives at High Schools and a variety of local women’s support groups can provided denim items for quilts. Treasure the Children, Inc., is a non-profit 501(c)(3)corporation. A receipt for your contributions will be provided to you for tax purposes. Thank you for your support. Charlene Bowman |
